Pasture Raised Pork

We love our pigs! Here at Black Dog Farm, we raise Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPPs). IPPs are a mix of 3 different heritage breeds, Old Berkshire, Duroc, and Kune Kune, and are slower growing, reaching butcher weight at 10-11 months (compared to 6-7 months for conventional breeds). We keep breeding stock year round & raise our pigs from farrow to finish — meaning from birth to butcher. Meat from IPPs is darker & more marbled than from traditional market hogs and it is exceptionally flavorful. IPPs are a grazing pig and ours are moved to fresh ground often. In addition to grazing our pastures, our pigs eat a feed that is grown and milled in Harrison, Montana and is made of peas, barley, wheat, sunflower seeds and camelina and also has an organic swine mineral added to it. When available, our pigs also get delicious produce & scraps. Our pigs are very friendly and our mamas are excellent and docile mothers.

How To Purchase

Pork cuts and 20# pork variety boxes can be ordered to your doorstep or picked up at the farm via our ONLINE FARM STORE. To order order for this week, click the link in the previous sentence or navigate to “Place an Order!” on the left hand side of this page.

Bulk Pork

Going forward into 2022, we will have very limited availabilty for whole and half hogs as we try to meet demand for retail cuts. We require a $300 deposit to order a whole or half hog and the price is $5.50 per pound of hanging weight (160-220#) plus your butcher fees, paid directly to Amsterdam Meat Shop. Butcher fees vary dramatically based on whether you have curing & sausage made. You are responsible for communicating your cut preferences, picking up your pork from Amsterdam Meat Shop, and paying your butcher fees when you pick up. Send us an email if you are interested in a whole or half hog in 2022.
